Applications received after January 17, 2005
You may sell your home whenever you like. But if your application was or is received after
January 18, 2005 and you sell your property within five years of purchase or make a resale
agreement with a private company, you will be required to repay a percentage of the discount you
received based on the resale value of the property.
The council also has right of first refusal on ex-Right to Buy homes. Owners who wish to resell them within 10 years of the Right to Buy sale must first offer them to the council. This will be a charge on the property.
Applications received prior to January 18, 2005
If your application was received prior to January 18, 2005, then you would only be liable to
repay a portion of the discount if you were to sell within the first three years of your
purchase.
The council will not generally repurchase your property unless you can show undue hardship
and even then the Councill will pay the original Right to Buy price only. See
Specific Issues/Repurchase of Properties.
