Legal Matters
You may be able to get a written order from the court to protect you. This order is
called an injunction. A typical injunction will prevent your attacker from coming near your
home, from verbally abusing you and from being violent towards you or your children. Often an
injunction comes with a power of arrest which means that if it is breached the police can respond
quickly and arrest the perpetrator. Injunctions can be logged at the local police station so
that the police know they have to respond quickly if needed. We may also seek to evict the
perpetrator.
If you have a low income or benefits you may be entitled to legal help (previously known as legal aid) to help with the cost.
