Ealing Homes recently held a sub-contractor workshop at the Glaxo Smith Kline Leisure Club in Greenford, Middlesex, with the aim to directly involve representatives from their constructor and sub-contractor framework partners working on the Decent Homes programme. This programme is currently coming to the end of the 2006/07 schedule and work has begun on the 2007/08.
Framework agreements with local building contractors were launched in September 2006 to ensure best value for money, long-term partnerships, and total commitment from all parties working together to ensure homes in Ealing reach the government’s decent standards.
The workshop was a welcome opportunity to not only engage with the main contractors, but directly with the sub-contractors. Talks and discussions emphasised how everyone is actively working towards the same goals, and focused on topics including:
Roger Thompson, Decent Homes Team Manager, thanked everyone for their attendance and valuable contributions to the day and said, “I am not aware of any other organisation with a partnering framework to directly involve their sub-contractors in this way. As they are the teams actually carrying out works on site, it is vital they are kept informed of our objectives, and, on the other side, vital that they report back to us any problems encountered or lessons learned so we can all improve our future performance. Cross communication is key.”

Notes for editors:
1. Ealing Homes manages all council-owned properties on behalf of Ealing Council.
2. The Decent Homes programme came about after the Government stated that all social
housing must meet its Decent Homes Standard by 2010. 3. The £300 million Decent Homes
programme in Ealing will include about 10,000 properties. It is a huge project that involves
hundreds of construction workers, project managers, residents and Ealing Homes staff.
