Ealing Homes has welcomed a decision to extend the closure of the Old Bill
Public House in Hanwell, saying antisocial behaviour in the area has reduced
dramatically during the last three months.
In the three months prior to the closure 33 ASB complaints had been logged
with Ealing Homes, compared to just 12 during the three months since.
ASB Team Manager Harps Dhaliwal gave evidence in support of the police
application in court yesterday (Wednesday July 19), saying the dramatic
decrease in ASB during the initial closure period showed that it was in
residents’ interest that the closure continued.
“The pub has long been a source of antisocial behaviour and illegal activities,
and the drop in ASB is proof that the quality of life on the Copley Close estate
has improved immensely since it was closed."
While the extension to the closure was a temporary measure, Mr Dhaliwal
said by continuing to work together, Ealing Homes, residents and police could
further build the case and prove the public house should remain closed.
“Residents have enjoyed three months of peace and quiet and can now look
forward to at least a further three months. However we know the brewery are
preparing to contest conditions laid down by the licensing committee, so it’s
important that we keep working together to come to a more permanent
solution."
